About
The night sky has been used as a calendar for thousands of years. As we start to see the Summer constellations, our astronomers will help explain how our ancestors followed the changing seasons in the night sky, and followed the movement of Summer star formations to help measure the length of the day.
You will be met with a delicious picnic and refreshments on arrival before setting off on our Solar Walk to the Neolithic stone site – Beaghmore Stone Circles.
If the sky is clear, we will catch the sunset, the planets Mars and Jupiter and a low hanging Full Moon, all here within Northern Ireland's only internationally accredited Dark Sky Park. We will then follow the rising Full Moon back across the bog to OM for the end of your night walk.
The walk will be 7km and fully dark. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing. Dress warm as this event is outdoors and please bring a torch (red light is best).
