This accessibility statement applies to www.visitmidulster.com
This website is managed by Mid Ulster District Council. Mid Ulster District Council is committed to making our website and applications accessible to our users. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- Change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand. AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How Do We Do This?
BrowseAloud - accessibility tool
BrowseAloud adds speech, reading and translation support tools to online content. It works on all major browsers and platforms, including mobile phones and tablets. All features are accessed by clicking on the ‘speak’ option on the right hand side of the screen, which triggers an easy-to-use floating toolbar on all web pages. Note: The translation service uses a version of Google Translate which relies on translations already available online – for this reason it may not always be 100% accurate.
Text Size
You can change the text size on this application to make it either larger or smaller via your browser settings. Some browsers will allow you to magnify the whole page.
Consistent page headings and titles
A consistent heading structure has been used so that page information is compatible with access technology.
Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Mid Ulster District Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance Status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-Compliance with Accessibility Regulations
- Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).
- We plan to add text alternatives for all images. When we publish new content, we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.
- Some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard because of limitations due to PDF documents such as maps and brochures which are not accessible.
- We are continuing to work with accessibility experts to ensure that our website is as accessible possible to our users.
Alternative Format
To ensure equality of opportunity in accessing information, we provide information in alternative formats on request, where reasonably practicable. Where the exact request cannot be met, we will ensure a reasonable alternative is provided.
If you would like to request a document in an alternative format you can request this from us via:
- the ‘Contact Us’ form on the website
- by calling us on 03000 132 132
- by writing to us at: Mid Ulster District Council, Tourism Department, Burn Road, Cookstown BT80 8DT
If you would like to report an accessibility problem with the website, please use the details listed above.
Enforcement Procedure
The Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (ECNI) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’).
