Eating out in Mid Ulster
You’re spoiled for choice when it comes to eating out in Mid Ulster.
In the centre of Dungannon, in a listed former church hall complete with stained glass window, you’ll find the award-winning Viscounts Restaurant. This popular establishment promises fine dining made from locally sourced ingredients. Travel a few miles to the nearby village of Donaghmore and you'll find The Brewer's House - a gastro-pub filled with atmosphere, great food and drinks.
Church Street Restaurant in Magherafelt is a winner of multiple Irish Restaurant Awards. It serves high quality, contemporary food made from local ingredients.
Tradition and atmosphere
If you’re looking for a more traditional Irish pub and restaurant experience, look no further than the historic Friel’s in the village of Swatragh. This fifth generation Irish bar and historic soup kitchen has been around since 1837. You’ll be greeted by an original wooden ceiling, ornate bar counter and a roaring fire

A wee drink
You couldn’t visit Mid Ulster without experiencing the craic at one of our local pubs or traditional Irish bars. Expect a friendly crowd, maybe a bit of music and definitely a lot of banter. Pop your head in at Tomneys Bar, in the Moy, one of the oldest and most traditional bars in Northern Ireland; grab a pint at Taphouse Bar and Restaurant, in Bellaghy; or soak up the atmosphere at The Ceili House in Dungannon. Those suggestions only scratch the surface because you’ll find welcoming pubs and bars in almost every town and village in Mid Ulster.
Alternatively, you might like to visit a local distillery, such as The Woodlab Distillery with its award-winning Symphonia spirits. Try a drop of small-batch dry gin or Irish apple rum.
Get cooking
For the perfect foodie break in Mid Ulster, book a spot at one of our local cookery schools. Brush up your culinary skills with a workshop on baking or cooking while working with local, seasonal ingredients.
Bakehouse is a small, family-run cookery school in Bellaghy. You'll find cookery classes on making traybakes, cake decorating, preparing healthy meals and many other topics. Classes are available for children, adults and groups. At Wee Buns Cookery School, in the Moy, near Dungannon, you can take on some traditional Irish baking, bake with local Bramley apples or rustle up a meal with seasonal produce.
