About

December 21st marks our shortest day of the year and the longest night – known as the Winter Solstice.

This day has been marked throughout Ireland for over 5,000 years at sites like Newgrange and Beaghmore and was celebrated with the sunrise or sunset on this day.

You will be met with a delicious picnic and refreshments on arrival before setting off on our Solar Walk to the Neolithic stone site – Beaghmore Stone Circles. You will hear ancient stories and learn about why the Winter Solstice was so significant to our ancestors, and how they were able to measure this so accurately. This year's Winter Solstice coincides with the peak of the Ursids Meteor Shower and if skies are clear you might see some shooting stars – best visible here within Northern Ireland's only Dark Sky Park.

The walk will be 7km and fully dark. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing. Dress warm as this event is outdoors and please bring a torch (red light is best).

Please advise when booking if you have any special dietary requirements or allergies.
