About
This Moderate A-B Walk takes on the world view of the late Stone Age or Neolithic people who arrived predominantly into Ireland via the north of the island approximately 5-10,000 years ago. Who were these people and what did they believe in?
This route starts in the Ballynasolus- Baile na Solas (literally Townland of the Light in Irish) area where the oldest neolithic house remains in Britain and Ireland were discovered, and travels west into Davagh - Dabhach (Deep Water Pond in Irish), transiting from minor roads to forest tracks. From available evidence, and drawing on the archaeology of extensive and unique sites in the southern Sperrins, this 8km walk will put the pieces of an historical jigsaw puzzle together on these ancestral people.
This walk is suitable for all walkers of average fitness (mostly on road or track) and will be co-lead by Hugh McCloy of Embrace Tours.
Starting point - Shepherds Rest, Draperstown- 10am
