About

The stars have aligned for us with not one, but two meteor showers to kick off International Dark Sky Week 2025!

The peak of the Lyrids meteor shower, known for its bright and fast meteors, which will overlap with the beginning of the higher-rate Eta Aquariids meteor shower happening at the same time. With no bright moon to spoil the view of either one, conditions this year are looking good for seeing something special. The best view as always is away from light pollution, here in N.Ireland's only accredited Dark Sky Park.

You will be joined by our friendly astronomers on our handy viewing platform outside the observatory where we will have telescopes and binoculars at hand. With access to the warm building, grab and go, and toilet facilities it will be a relaxing night with lots to see. In the event of poor weather an alternative programme will run covering meteors, astronomy and International Dark Sky Week.
