Take the gentle Lakeside Walk to experience the full beauty of this 12 acre freshwater lake, created in the 1790s and home to ducks, swans, migrating Canadian geese, the occasional nesting Grebes otters and more rarely, kingfishers. You’ll pass the striking stone masonry dam with its waterfall, the Lady’s well at the far side of the lake – and the anglers who flock to the park which is renowned for its fishing. (0.75miles). Dungannon Park History
Originally part of the estate granted to Sir Arthur Chichester in the early 17th Century, the land which now forms Dungannon Park was purchased by Thomas Knox in 1692, and passed through the Knox family for centuries.
One of the descendants, Viscount Northland, who ordered the low-lying meadows of his considerable estate to be flooded to create an ornamental lake n the 1790s. The 64 acres of land way which now makes up Dungannon Park was bought by the former Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council in 1987 and passed to Mid Ulster District Council in 2015.
